The IDCS service unit, created on May 14, 2020, is attached to the Research Department of École polytechnique.

The unit is managed by a executive committee: a director (researcher or teacher-researcher) and a technical director (engineer) appointed by the Research Department. The management team's renewable term of office is set at five years.

The IDCS unit works with partner laboratories to which it can provide services and which contribute to the unit's human and financial resources. In these laboratories, correspondents liaise between the IDCS and laboratory users, in agreement with their management. The list of partner laboratories is periodically updated according to their involvement.

The unit's management seeks the advice of a scientific council composed of the École polytechnique's Research Department and scientific correspondents from each partner laboratory, which meets at least once a year. The purpose of these meetings is to define the broad guidelines for the IDCS unit's activities.

Each service provided by IDCS is operated by the following staff:

  • Agents attached to the unit (100% quota), under the hierarchical responsibility of the director and technical director of the IDCS service unit.
  • Technical staff attached to IDCS partner laboratories. At least 20% of their working time must be devoted to IDCS: one day per week in person at the IDCS offices. This commitment is formalized in a letter of assignment signed by the Director of Research, the Director of IDCS, and the director of the employee's assigned laboratory.
  • Administrative staff attached to IDCS partner laboratories. This involvement is formalized by a letter of assignment signed by the Director of Research, the Director of IDCS, and the Director of the agent's assigned laboratory.

Premises are allocated to the unit, enabling staff to exchange and interact in order to share and work together effectively.

The unit has a budget for its operations and an investment budget for the acquisition of software and hardware necessary for the proper functioning of the infrastructure managed by the unit.
